The Sound of Silence

*cricket cricket*—the sound of silence. Oh how often do we feel like all we are hearing from God is the sound of chirping crickets? Whether we are praying for a loved one’s health, seeking the Lord for direction, or just hoping to feel His touch to our broken heart, sometimes the silence can be so frustrating and hard to understand.

In my new changes of life, all too often the crickets are singing while I pray. I have learned that the chirping is building a new level in my faith: it’s a level I like to call deaf trust. Now we know that faith is believing in what we cannot see, so we are already somewhat blind . . . now let’s add the silence . . . so right now we are working with three senses. As we know with the human body, when someone loses one of their senses, the other senses heighten and step up. I have found this to be true in my faith.

“Singing crickets” has become my new favorite game with the Lord. I cannot wait to see what new way He replies to me. As I started a new job and the days were long and I questioned my ability, I prayed in need of confirmation. About three weeks in, I had lunch with my boss. As we discussed my development with the company, he said, “You are here for a reason, you are sitting where you are sitting for a reason, and you are working with who you are working with for a reason.” As those words melted into my heart, I tried not show any emotion on my face. He was saying those things in relation to my success at the company, but in my spirit the Father was confirming His word to me. My blind and deaf faith caused me to hear the voice of God from an unexpected source.

I want to encourage you that when you hear crickets while you pray, get expectant to what the Lord has to say in a new way. He hears you, and He will reply. Plant prayer seeds and become excited to see how the plant grows.

“but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!” Psalm 66:19-20
